Work shadowing

The Careers Centre organises a work shadowing programme in which alumni, friends and staff of the University of St Andrews offer their time for you to shadow them at their place of work.

Shadowing happens in many forms and across many sectors, but in this programme you will typically shadow someone in the workplace. Shadowing occurs as an in-person or virtual experience for a day to a week. The type of shadowing will vary, depending on the host's availability.

Work shadowing takes place during the winter and summer vacations and is unpaid. Work shadowing is meant to help you explore your desired career path, but it is not equivalent to an internship.

Eligibility

All students, in any year of study, can participate in work shadowing, including postgraduates.

How to apply

Career Catalyst

This programme brings active participation to career exploration. Instead of listening to an expert, join them to experience what it's like to work in a certain industry.

Career Catalyst activities fit brilliantly with the Saint Skills Builder Award. This award helps you reflect and identify your experiences, skills and expertise and provides a clear illustration of your experiences for employers to understand.

The Career Catalyst designation lets you know that these events will be active, dynamic learning opportunities to help you discover your next step. Details for each programme will be shared on our social media and can be found on CareerConnect.
