CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile advice appointments, lasting 15 minutes, can help you with your CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile. They are held through Microsoft Teams.

If you need help writing a personal statement for postgraduate study, or with a job application form, please book a careers advice appointment.

You can also get immediate, AI-generated feedback on your CV or cover letter by submitting them to CareerSet. Students can access CareerSet using their university email address. Graduates can access CareerSet by contacting careers@st-andrews.ac.uk for an access code.

Book an appointment

Appointments are available Monday to Friday and are bookable from 6pm (UK time) the day before. You can book two CV, cover letter and LinkedIn profile advice appointments per week.

What you can get help with

The CV adviser can support you with:

  • creating a CV or cover letter
  • tailoring a CV or cover letter to a specific job
  • choosing the correct format and style for your CV or cover letter
  • creating and updating an effective LinkedIn profile.

Advisers can only look at one CV, cover letter, or LinkedIn profile per appointment.

Advisers cannot:

  • write, rewrite or translate a CV or cover letter for you
  • review personal statements or job application forms
  • check spelling and grammar – see guidance on proofreading and, if English is not your first language, the Academic English Service.

If you have a specific opportunity in mind, you should come to the appointment prepared to discuss it.

You can also upload a CV, cover letter or link to your LinkedIn profile when you book your appointment. Advisers will only review what you upload during the appointment, not in advance.

Cancelling an appointment

Demand for appointments is high. Please cancel any appointment you are unable to attend through CareerConnect.

If you do not attend your appointment within five minutes of the start time, the CV Adviser will not continue with the appointment.
